Interreg Danube Transnational Programme - Linking Danube - European Union

LD deals with insufficient provision of cross-border traveller information on public transport, particularly considering cross-border commuting and mobility in rural areas . The overall project objective is to foster environmentally-friendly mobility options and balanced accessibility in the Danube Region through transnational, interoperable and multimodal journey planning in urban and rural areas. Currently no suitable multimodal, transnational system for travellers exists anywhere in Europe. LD especially focuses on connecting less accessible areas to the TEN-T network by linking alternative public transport services and integrating demand transport data into the services.

One main output is the LinkingDanube Concept on transnational, multimodal journey planning services for environmentally friendly modes in the Danube Region. The Concept shall serve as input both for the technical development work within LinkingDanube as well as for uptake by project externals. The LinkingDanube Service (Technical Tool) will build, where appropriate, on existing systems and will be implemented in a decentralised way ensuring that each country is responsible of its routing logic. All decentralised journey planners can be addressed through an open API, ensuring transnational routing via one central application operated by end-user service providers.

The Pilot Action will demonstrate feasibility and functionality of the LinkingDanube Concept including both integrating rural public transport services in the information flow of national/regional journey planners and linking services for cross-border service provision. The Danube Scout application will provide a comprehensive overview of traveller information services in the Danube Region. For long-term durability of the results, a strategy for the implementation of transnational environmentally-friendly journey planners in the Danube Region will be developed in cooperation with the EUSDR priority area 1B working group.

Project content of Linking Danube implemented within the Interreg Danube Transnational Program: fostering environment-friendly mobility, exploration of the possibilities of connecting peripheral areas by means of public transport, examining and enhancing feeder transport connections, linking the travel planning systems of the partners by means of interfaces.

GYSEV Zrt. is committed to improve the mobility in the region and to create and continuously upgrade the passenger friendly, cross-border transport services in cooperation with other public transport service providers.

In the frame of the present project GYSEV would like to improve the usage of environmentally friendly mobility options and balanced accessibility.

In the project, GYSEV takes part in all work packages, with special attention to the following:

  • providing inputs for developing a multimodal traveller information service for the whole Danube Region
  • estimating the demand of travellers in rural areas for on-demand transport services and the possibility of linking the rural areas to the TEN-T network
  • estimating the possibility of developing the cross-border transport services between Slovakia and Hungary
  • developing the IT background.
